Graduation Card Designs!! :D

Hey Everybody! :]
Lately I've been going full speed this invitation stuff! They're so much fun to create because you can be fun and innovative, the possibilities are endless when it comes to this kind of work. This is kind of my past time, the past couple of months, and I want to share my designs with you guys! Let mw know what your thoughts are, or even suggest an event that you think I should get a go with! <3

I wanted to create something that is modern and clean, and has strong typography and the looks of letterpress (Which reminds me, I will try to start working with letterpress, and I am already money aside to buy me an awesome kit :])! The end result is these super cute graduation cards!

There are the 'Graduation Invitation Cards'
these are great to sending to many people to come celebrate your graduation with you!

There are individual 'Graduation Greeting Cards'
these cards are to be send to a loved one who is becoming
even more awesome than they already are!

Yay! I loved how these came out! :]
Now to design more cool stuff!! Weeehhh!!
Love you guys<3

Love these cards? All this work is on sale on Etsy. ;]

Spring Awakening

Howdy guys! Long time no see!!

So, march was a crazy ass month for me! It has been super rewarding because I am working with different people now, and it's just so exciting to see what everyone is passionate about and what stuff they work on.

One of the people, or group, that has approached me is Glory | Struck, and they are going to be touring their rendition of the famous musical, Spring Awakening, this summer in Los Angeles! They asked me to work on the cover art the singles, and I jumped right in!

Of course, I will have to thank the wonderful Nikki Menez of the University of California, Santa Cruz, for helping me understand the lyrics of the songs and how their words play in relation to the play. She is so passionate about this musical that I could not ask anyone else to work with, her enthusiasm is contagious, and at times, a little scary... So thanks Nikki!

This is the first of many. This song is called 'Touch Me.'

Enjoy! :]

If you would like to know more about this musical visit, www.springawakeninginconcert.com.

I will be back with more! Love you guys!! :]

I Fly Like Paper, Get High Like Planes. [Happy Valentine's!]

Happy Valentine's Day!

I remember I posted last year about the heart-shaped steak I got my boyfriend, but the present this is will be a little less bloody! I can't posted right now because he might see it, and that would totes ruin the surprise :(

Meanwhile, I will entertain you with my client's little Valentine's project! This is one of those fun 'Check Out My Process' kinda of post. So, she got her boyfriend airplane lessons (baller!) and she wants to have a card that is just as awesome as the gift. I thought about it for weeks, and I could go many ways with this one. However, I took too long thinking and now I only had one day to achieve the final result, so I had to think fast!

I decided to go with a modern approach and eliminated all cutesy stuff out, and leave just a very minimal amount of hearts into the card. Paper planes are awesome! It relates to the gift and their shape is straight lined and geometrical, they leave a lot of room to play be creative, so yes, I love paper planes!

After choosing red as my main color for my monochromatic design, I start making mock-ups for the paper planes. I pick the heaviest duty red paper to make it, and glaze the plane to make it look more special. Then, I proceeded to mock-up the card, and then the envelope.

Then, I picked a theme for the project: Paper Planes by M.I.A.
( I would normally post a video, but apparently you can't do that anymore :[ )

And now, I will let the pictures do most of the talking:

The Final Product

BAM! Another project done, now to start on a new one. :]
Hope everyone is having a great Valentine's Day!
much love. <3

February Fun!

Hello lil berries!
Seems that every time I have written a post it has fallen somewhat near a special day like, Christmas, New Year's, Lunar New Years and so on. Now it's Valentine's Day!! It has become a trend for me to design a card for all these special days, and of course I made some for valentine's!

The whole idea for the cards was to make them relate to all people that are in love, so that's why I have three different designs! As I was walking through the card aisles at different stores, I noticed that they were not very diverse, so I decided not to miss that in my cards and make it so that everyone can have their own special card for the person they love :]

OMG!!!! I almost forgot!! There's a contest on my facebook page!! :D
Winner gets a personalized 8.5"x11" print and a valentine's card. All you need to do is send a picture of yourself doing the heart sign, super easy right? Most creative and cutest photo wins!

The link for the contest is right HUUUUURRRRREEEEE!!! Just like the page and send a photo :]

Hope you guys are having a great weekend! It's a little chili in the bay area, but makes perfect for hot milk and tea, hmmmmm....<3

Huzzah for Love!!

You can purchase these cards on Etsy! :]
Don't forget to be my friend on Facebook and get in the contest!

Dragon Quest + CSUEB = Awesome Campus Map

Hey Guys!
Right now I am almost done with the CSUEB Campus Map I've been working on for about a month, but before I show you the awesomeness, I would like to invite you to my work's FACEBOOK PAGE!
So, if you would like to show support to this starving artist, just click on the link below:

and click the Like button. :]

Seriously, nothing puts a smile on my face more than seeing people looking at my work and enjoying it! Hopefully, it does inspire you to create great work of your own, or just feed your eyes with a wholesome visual meal!

Anyways, going back to this map! Here's the transformations it has gone through, so far. This is not yet the final, but it's getting close!

Step One: Goggle Sketchup

Step Two: Drafting

Step Three: Vectors

Step Three: Coloring on PS
Here I started drawing details onto the buildings that are related to the Associated Students Incorporation, ASI. The main purpose of this map is to emphasize spaces which are used for ASI events, so students know where they would take place and where they can find ASI offices, that's why it's all out of proportion, but it's not about accuracy on this map.
Disclaimer: In no way this piece is a substitute to the original map.
This is just a 'portrait' of the original map with a fun twist! :]

I will have the final draft for you guys to view soon!
Love you ;]

To Do List

"There aren't many jobs out there for ________ right now, I won't find a job, durp durp."
*goes back to facebook and yahoo news routine*

NO! Don't be a durper!!
There might not be as many jobs out there right now, but you should not lose confidence that you can get the few that are available. So, this post will have a to-do list that can help get that interview for your dream job.

TO-DO LIST

- Online Portfolio

It is always helpful to have an online portfolio, I cannot emphasize this enough. Companies almost require you to have a link to your portfolio, specially in the Graphic Design field, it saves them a lot of time when looking through a ton of portfolios. If you don't know how to create a website, don't worry! There are many sites out there that can be used to show your work online for FREE! Just get your work out there, yo!
Check out Weebly, Behance and Blooger

- Resume
Ooooh, the resume! Make sure to put down experience that relates to the job you are applying for. For example, I would not write down my barista experience for a graphic design job, unless I have nothing else to show.

Also, try to remember writing down groups you were involved with in school, awards you received, extra languages you know, all that good stuff that makes you look like the awesomest person evaaah!! Or at least awesomer than the other candidates.

An easy way to make a resume is to get a Linkedin account! You input your info, and it gives you a PDF with your info nicely organize for people to read. It's a really nice site to get your networking going.

- Hardcopy Portfolio
Pick at least 7-10 projects that you are proud of (or less if it's architecture projects since they are bigger and more time consuming). Here is a good order to follow, start the book with your best project and end the book with your 2nd best. That way the reader starts and ends your portfolio with a bang!

My suggestion for the layout is to keep it simple. DO NOT smear your pages with funky backgrounds, different fonts, every color of the color wheel, your pictures, your family pictures, your dog pictures... Allow your projects to be the stars of your portfolio, don't take their shine away, they love you.

Make sure to add the following: Title, client, dimensions, and a brief explanation of the project.

- Business Cards
Man, get yourself some buzz cards!
Do like I do, carry them babies in your wallet, so anytime someone says the word "designer" you can just pop that card out of nowhere and give it to them. They will be so amazed, you might even get a date out of it (not recommended).

- Be Confident
As cheesy as it may sound, you need to believe in yourself.
Always apply thinking you will get an interview, and never give up.
Bottom line is: If you don't apply, you will never get that job.
Take your chances and do it, you never really know. :]

Here are my stats: 55 applications, 7 interviews, 4 jobs.

I leave you guys with this awesome food allergy card designed for the sweetest and most amazing food blogger: Sonia Hunt! She promotes food allergy awareness and delicious events all around the nation. You can check her blog, videos, and events at www.soniahunt.com.

This card was one of the most fun projects I have done, Sonia gave me a lot of room for creativity. It was designed for little Dana who loves pink, peace signs, and piggys. So, I came up with this Juicy Couture inspired design for her. All illustrations are original.

You guys have a goodnight, and always believe in yourself! ;]

Oh, post comments letting me know if this was helpful to you!
Depending on the feedback, I might come back with more tips, stories, and such.

Finally, it has finally happened! :]

This past two or three months have been the busiest of my Graphic Design career, which is a great sign because it only means that I'm getting work. YAY! :D

However, the best part of everything has happened last week out of a frustrating incident. As some of you might know, I was supposed to visit Los Angeles to see my friends' graduation, so I was planning on leaving on Thursday of last week. After getting everything ready, I decide to check my degree's status on the university website, and I see the most horrific thing someone can read when they're getting ready to travel: "AMOUNT DUE NOW: $884."

I was like, "WUUUUUTTT?!?!?!"

So, yah, no road-tripping for this girl... So, on the night that I'm supposed to travel, I decide to look for a job because I am broke as hell now. As I search online, I came across an ad for a graphic designer for ASI at CSUEB. I thought to myself, "why not?" I applied at 2:30am.

The next day, at around 10 am, I get an email response asking me to come in for an interview the next day! Wooooo!! :D

So, that's how Anna got a full-time job as a Graphic Designer this summer! If it wasn't for me paying for a eight hundred dollar fee, I would have gone to to Los Angeles and never gotten the interview. See, I needed to be broke to find an awesome full-time job in my field! :]

Anyways, I leave you here with one of my client's projects! This organization, International Accountability Project, helps people around the world that I suffering unjust developments and helps them defend their human rights and environments. You can check them out at www.accountabilityproject.org.

Have a great weekend!
